Position Name: Church Music Director/Organist/Pianist for First Presbyterian Church of Fort Walton Beach (FPCFWB)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Church Music Director to lead our music ministry and enhance our worship services through musical excellence and spiritual enrichment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to worship, a passion for music, and the ability to lead and inspire both musicians and congregants.

This position is accountable to the Pastor and the Session through the Worship Committee. Meaningful work within a supportive church community committed to spiritual growth and service.

Qualifications:

Strong personal faith and a commitment to Christian worship and ministry.

Bachelor’s degree in music, music education, or a related field.

Proven experience in church music leadership, including conducting choirs and ensembles.

Proficiency in vocal and instrumental music, with the ability to teach and mentor musicians of varying skill levels.

Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate rehearsals and worship services.

Proven experience directing a traditional Church Choir or similar role in a professional setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with a variety of musical styles and traditions within Christian worship.

Familiarity with traditional hymnody as well as contemporary Christian music.

Experience with music technology and sound systems used in worship settings.

Demonstrated ability to adapt music ministry to diverse congregational preferences and worship styles.

Skills:

Leadership: Ability to lead and inspire a team of musicians towards a common goal.

Educate: Skilled in educating musicians on musical techniques, styles, and performance expectations.

Job Responsibilities:

Be prompt, prepared, and play for all regular/special worship services and rehearsals

Lead rehearsals effectively, ensuring preparedness and unity among musicians.

Be willing to schedule for rehearsal with soloists

Select appropriate music repertoire in collaboration with the clergy, taking into account liturgical seasons, sermon themes, and the overall worship experience.

Plan and give schedules of music to be performed and performance dates well in advance to choir members and the office administrator for publication in the Bulletin

Arrange for a replacement when planning to be absent/advise Office Administrator

Submit articles for the church newsletter featuring musical themes

Other duties as requested by the Pastor and/or Worship Committee, including attending Worship Committee meetings.

Salary: Depends on Experience (DOE) and education.

Pay: $24,000.00 – $26,000.00 per year
